Although the vibrant fall colors have begun to adorn Chicago, my mind is still occupied with summer dresses and open-toed sandals. As I prepare for an exciting trip to the celebrity-favored island of Turks and Caicos, I realized that I have yet to properly introduce a very special addition to my collection, which had been tucked away in my wardrobe.
Reflecting on beach destinations brought back memories of Miami in early August. I spent a few delightful days with my family, reconnecting with my younger sister, who had flown in from Canada. This time together was the backdrop to a significant purchase that deserves a story of its own.
To give you some context, back in late May, whispers of new limited-edition bags started circulating in the fashion world. Photos began appearing in magazines, and my fellow fashionistas were slowly revealing their finds. Although I was captivated by one particular bag, I wasn't sure if I wanted to add another Louis Vuitton piece to my collection, given my obsession with another luxury brand (hello, CC!). I've been selective about my LV purchases, often gravitating towards only the most unique RUNWAY SHOW items. Despite my admiration, the thought of the bag was tucked away in the recesses of my mind, overshadowed by practical considerations.
Fast forward a few weeks, and while strolling along Michigan Avenue, I decided to pop into the Chicago flagship LV store, more out of curiosity than intent. As I browsed, I couldn't resist asking if any of the new limited editions were still available, fully expecting the answer to be no. To my surprise, they brought out a blue sequined version. Though charming, it didn't resonate with me. The sales associate kindly offered to track down another one, but I left content, having seen it and feeling that my curiosity was satisfied.
But destiny had other plans. In Miami, while exploring Boca Raton mall, I spotted the burgundy sequin Speedy in the Louis Vuitton window, and my heart skipped a beat—it was stunning. I quickly gathered my sister and mom from their respective shopping pursuits to show them what had caught my eye. I promised them we would only peek and then leave immediately. However, once inside, the sales associate informed me that the bag had just sold. I was disappointed but also relieved—saved once again from a purchase.
As we were about to exit, Yashira, the wonderful associate, had one last trick up her sleeve. She had another burgundy sequin Speedy brought over from the Saks LV, the very last one in the country. And let me tell you, when the creamy ivory suede cover was slipped off, it was love at first sight—pure, unadulterated love. My sister gasped, my mom smiled, and we all knew: this bag was coming home with me.
Before I left, Yashira shared some fascinating details about the collection: "The Damier Canvas is created through an impeccably executed and controlled process. This iconic material is sublimated through the embroidery of three layers of colorful and luminous sequins. The embroidery is deliberately misaligned with the Damier Canvas to create a relief effect. Sequins have undergone a specific treatment to make them less abrasive, and the embroidering nylon thread has been selected for its durability, ensuring the longevity of each bag. Refined details have been added to the original shape: shiny edge dyeing and trimmings, and lining matching with the sequins' colors."
To commemorate this special purchase, I dragged my sister down to the beach in Miami, where we captured some breathtaking shots of our new Louis Vuitton treasures against the stunning ocean backdrop. It was the perfect way to celebrate a purchase that was meant to be. And of course, my sister couldn't leave empty-handed—she found something practical for her lifestyle with her three hockey-playing boys: the spacious LV Artsy GM.
As the weekend approaches, I wish everyone a beautiful and fulfilling time, wherever you may be.
